Ramanuja Life History In Tamil Pdf

Ramanuja was a great philosopher and reformer of the Srivaishnava tradition. He was born in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, in 1017 CE. He lived for 120 years and attained moksha in Srirangam, where his body is still preserved and worshipped. He is considered as the incarnation of Adisesha, the serpent bed of Lord Vishnu. He propagated the doctrine of Visishtadvaita, which means qualified non-dualism. He taught that the supreme reality is Brahman, who is both the material and the efficient cause of the universe. Brahman is also known as Narayana or Sriman Narayana, who has Lakshmi as his eternal consort. The individual souls (jivas) and matter (prakriti) are the modes (prakaras) of Brahman, who pervades and controls them. The jivas are of two types: bound and liberated. The bound jivas are subject to the cycle of birth and death (samsara), which is caused by their ignorance (avidya) and karma. The liberated jivas are free from samsara and enjoy the bliss of Brahman in Vaikuntha, the abode of Narayana.

Ramanuja was a compassionate teacher who wanted to share the knowledge of Brahman with everyone, irrespective of their caste, gender or status. He faced many challenges and persecutions from his opponents, who belonged to different schools of thought, such as Advaita, Buddhism, Jainism and Shaivism. He also had to deal with the political turmoil and invasions that plagued India at that time. He travelled extensively and visited many holy places, such as Kanchipuram, Tirupati, Melkote, Kashmir and Badrinath. He established 74 centers (simhasanas) of learning and appointed his disciples as their heads. He also wrote many works in Sanskrit, such as Sri Bhashya, Vedanta Sara, Vedanta Dipa, Gita Bhashya, Vedartha Sangraha and Sharanagati Gadya. He also composed hymns in Tamil, such as Nitya Grantha and Gadya Trayam.
